Endicott tree removal continues

MJ Tree Service cuts down the large trees on the Endicott school grounds for the second phase of a removal project. In September 2013, a wind storm broke many of the old trees and limbs. Two of the trees in front of the school were snapped off. One snapped at about 12 feet up. It was located along the sidewalk between the two baseball fields on the east side of the school lawn area. The other tree was snapped at a higher level, about 25 feet, on the west side of the lawn near the parking lot. A powerline along the school sidewalk was snapped during the storm and repaired by Avista.

A core sample test found “substantial core deterioration” according to Supt. Suzanne Schmick. The trees had already surpassed their life expectancy.

Phase one of the project removed the trees along the school’s long sidewalk where most of the damage from the wind storm had been. The final phase will remove the remaining trees between the gravel parking lot and main road.

The school board has not yet determined whether to replant, keep it as an open space or use the area for something else.
