Oakesdale honors Crossett's Market

The Town of Oakesdale presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Mike Crossett of Crossett's Food Market at the town council meeting May 15.

The rare certificate was presented to Crossett and his store which has served Oakesdale for 69 years.

The honor notes Crossett's support of the school, local organizations and fire department.

The certificate was the first presented for the 12 years Mary DeGon has been clerk/treasurer for Oakesdale.

Councilmember Al Evans brought up the idea to honor Crossett's at an earlier town council meeting.

“One of our council members made a suggestion because of all the fine things Mike's done for our community,” said Oakesdale Mayor Dennis Palmer. “He's done a lot as far as the store and helping people – the school, the museum.”

Crossett's Food Market was started by Mike's late father Jack in 1948, in the building that housed a previous grocery store.

Mike took over the store in 1980.
