New towing operation eyes Highway 272 site

Master's Touch Auto Repair in Colfax, owned by Jake and Kandace Olson and Garth and Christina Mader, has been in business for about 20 years and plans to expand into towing. The addition of towing has come based on input received from customers.

“Our expansion into towing is really just a response to our customer’s needs. We believe there's opportunity, and many of our customers have asked us to provide a towing service,” said Garth Mader. “We like to provide great customer service.”

With the towing business also comes an impound yard on State Route 272. Master's Touch had to go through a public hearing in order to have the land, located just east of Colfax, change from the classification of agricultural district to heavy commercial district.

"The applicant was granted their zone changes," said County Planner Alan Thomson. “The planning commission made their judgment and recommended it change from agricultural district to limited heavy commercial district, being limited to just that one operation.”

The final stage in the approval process is having it approved by the Board of County Commissioners. A date has not yet been determined for that.

The land in question is an approximately .6 acre parcel that Mader said will be used as an impound yard. “It was ag land before, and it will be a very small towing yard,” he said. “It's about three miles outside of Colfax on State Route 272. We believe it will be very nice looking.”

Master's Touch already does offer some towing.

“We have one tow truck now, but there could be more,” said Mader. “We can offer towing to the Master's Touch customers now, but we aren't yet a towing service for the State of Washington.”
