Prison term on meth plea

A warrant of commitment of Jason Day, 39, Spokane, to the state prison system was filed Jan. 17 in superior court. Day was credited for 117 days spent in jail here since he was arrested in Tekoa.

Judge Gary Libey Jan. 13 sentenced Day to a year and a day in prison after Day pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. He was arrested Sept. 23 in Tekoa after a deputy observed a pickup truck pulling a trailer which had a faulty taillight. Day was a passenger in the truck, but he was arrested after deputies encountered problems determining his identity. A search following his initial arrest led to discovery of a meth pipe and meth packet which had been contained in an Altoids tin.

Day’s attorney said he is also facing a hearing in federal court for violating supervision. He was convicted in 2012 in federal court on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.

Day, a former City of Spokane employee, went before the court Friday with an offender score of five based on a criminal record of convictions dating back to 2010.

Three other charges here were dismissed Friday as part of a plea bargain. Day was also ordered to pay a $1,000 state drug fine and $800 in fees and costs.
