Riley, Hutsell recognized at Pro Rodeo

At the Gold Card gathering during the National Finals of Professional Rodeo in Las Vegas last week, the Hutsells and Rileys of Washington received the Wrangler 2016 World of Rodeo Reunion Award for being a foundation rodeo family and providing a lifetime of contributions to the sport of pro rodeo. Walter Riley and Don Hutsell are co-owners of the Flying Five/Big Bend Rodeo Stock Company. The Rileys are Whitman County residents.

Christopher Heaton flew home last Thursday to attend the funeral of Larry Jones Friday. Christopher spent the weekend with his parents, Blake and Carmen Heaton, and Justin and Katy Heaton and children Tru and Range. He flew back to his home in Phoenix Sunday night.

Last week Wednesday, Homestead Ministries, with the Colfax Catholic Youth Group, made up 600 soup bags at St. Patrick’s parish hall. Linda Marler prepared soup for the group’s dinner.

Linda Hennigar and Vicki Broeckel were among friends attending a coffee hour at the home of Sharon Schlomer last week Thursday.

Tom and Doreen Riedner hosted a Penawawa Neighborhood Christmas party Saturday. Twenty-six guests attended.

Gary and Diane Monson hosted a luncheon for the County Bible Church family Sunday after morning worship services.

Vicki Broeckel will join other artists in exhibiting their work at The Art Among the Trees Dec. 21 at the Bettie Steiger Center at the Colfax Library.

A reminder: Dusty B.B. Club's annual Christmas party will be Friday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m. in the parish hall of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Colfax. Members are asked to bring a hot dish and a dessert or salad. They will meet at the hall Friday at 9 a.m. to decorate for the party. They are asked to bring a dozen cookies for the roll call exchange.

Connie Horton, Dusty; Renee Horton, Seattle, and Connie’s niece, Gayle Bonta, Vancouver, Wash., were in New York City to watch Connie’s granddaughter, Devin Jones, dance in the Joffrey School of Ballet’s performance of “The Nutcracker Suite.” Jones attends college at the Joffrey Ballet School. Horton returned home Monday night.

Saturday, Warren Horton attended the graduation of his grandson T.J. Hopkins at the University of Idaho in the school of economics. Horton went with T.J.’s parents, Tim and Debbie Hopkins, Boise, and T.J.’s brother Mitch Hopkins and his girlfriend Alex. T.J. will be living and working in Bellevue.
