Crash scene extrication

Volunteers from Steptoe, Colfax and St. John responded early Monday morning to a one-vehicle accident on Highway 23 west of Steptoe in which a driver had to be extricated from a SUV which had landed on its top next to a highway embankment.

The accident scene was approximately two miles west of Steptoe at the location where Highway 23 goes through a cut east of the Green Hollow Road intersection.

According to the report by Trooper Bruce Blood, Jennifer Roberds, St. John, lost control of the 2008 Nissan Rogue she was driving toward Steptoe and went onto the shoulder of the highway. The Rogue crossed the highway and went into the opposite ditch where it flipped end-over-end and came to a stop on its roof.

A rear door of the SUV was forced off with a hydraulic jaws of life rescue unit. The patient was taken by Colfax ambulance to Pullman Regional Hospital.

―--Sunday at 2:28 p.m., Jeremy Morita, Lynnwood, was unhurt when he lost control of a 2000 Honda CRV seven miles east of Colfax on Highway 26. According to the Washington State Patrol report, Morita was driving westbound in snowy and slushy conditions when the Honda went out of control and went off the roadway on the right and into the westbound ditch.
