LaCrosse school plans robotics day

The LaCrosse School District is planning its annual robotics day for Saturday, Dec. 3. The WSU Robotics Club, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories and Garfield/Palouse High School Robotics Club will be on hand with the LaCrosse Robotics Club for the day.

The event, which is open to the public, will feature hands-on activities and demonstrations.

“It’s a chance for the kids to experience something they wouldn’t normally have the chance to experience,” said Matt Wysock, science and engineering teacher at LaCrosse.

Wysock said he feels the technology is important for the students to learn.

“It’s something that is the way of the future,” he said. “The world is changing fast. It’s an opportunity for them to get on board with that.”

All participants will have the opportunity to fly drones, drive tactical robots, program robots to navigate a maze and participate in other engineering challenges. Wysock said there will also be a 3D printer and robotic hand at the event, as well as lego robotics.

“We’d like anybody who would like to come,” said Wysock. “It’s not just for the kids.”

The robotics day is slated from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the high school. A chili feed will also be a part of the day with chili, a drink and a cookie for $5. Proceeds will go to the LaCrosse Robotics Club.
