Vikings roll to Touchet; Colton will host Pomeroy

Garfield/Palouse Vikings will roll south to Touchet Friday for a key league matchup in the SE football race. The Vikings will take a 2-0 league mark south for the afternoon game.

"They're always a tough team, and they're well coached,” Viking coach Willie Woltering noted.

Touchet is the first of three league rounds remaining for Garfield/Palouse before the crossover playoff round with team in the NE circuit.

Friday, the Vikings scored four times in the first quarter on the way to a 68-12 win over the SJE Eagles at St. John.

Touchet will host the Vikings after sustaining a 30-38 loss to Pomeroy in a battle Friday on the Pirates' turf. The Pirates and Indians waged a see-saw battle with Cade Gingerich scoring in the deciding TD in the last quarter on a 10-yard run. He scored in the last 16 seconds of the game.

Friday at St. John, GP's Evan Weagraff scored four times in the game and finished with 163 yards rushing.

Weagraff scored on runs of 45 and 15 in the first quarter. Ely Hawkins, who finished with 51 yards rushing, had an eight-yard plunger in the first quarter, and Mason Bates scored on an 18-yard TD pass from Weagraff for the fourth TD in the half.

Hunter Gingras scored both of the SJE touchdowns with the first one on a 14-yard run in the second quarter. Halftime score was 52-6.

Colton Friday made a long trip to Sunnyside for a battle with Sunnyside Christian. The Knights pulled out a 42-36 win in the league round and remain undefeated at 6-0.

The Wildcats are now 1-1 in league play and 5-2 overall.

Sunnyside Christian staked a 20-14 lead at the half and swapped scores with the Wildcats in the second half to get the single TD win.

Colton stacked a brief lead, 22-20, after the halftime break when QB Brady Chadwick hit Grant Kinzer on a 65-yard pass play.

Colton's other two scores in the second half were also Chadwick-Kinzer hits for 12 and 51 yards in the last quarter.

Colton was unable to regain possession of the ball for more than four minutes after getting within six points of the league-leading Knights.

Chadwick's passing mark for the game was 20 for 37 for 389 yards. Kinzer had 13 of the receptions for 278 yards.

Colton will play Friday at home at 7 p.m. against Pomeroy, and SJE's game against Sunnyside Christian has been cancelled because the team does not have enough players for the game.
