Massage therapy business opens in Tekoa

Will that be deep tissue, Swedish or hot stone?

A new massage therapy business is open in Tekoa in a room next to the offices of Stateline Processors on Crosby Street.

Myriah Johnson opened the business Sept. 1.

“It's been great,” she said. “I expected it to be kind of slow to start out, but I've been busy.”

With hours on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and every other Saturday, Johnson specializes in deep tissue massage while also offering Swedish massage, chair massages and, starting in November, hot stone massage.

Johnson, who spent part of her childhood in Tekoa, studied massage at Spokane Community College and earned her certification from the Washington Department of Health after 1,000 hours.

She previously had a home business in Spokane Valley before she and her husband and son moved to Tekoa, where her parents live.

Tekoa Massage Therapy offers one-hour massages for $50, half-hour for $25 and chair massages at $1 per minute. Massages are by appointment.

As the weather gets colder, hot stone massage will begin.

“It's the equivalent of two massages, it feels so good,” Johnson said.

How does she heat the basalt stones?

“They call it a 'stone warmer,' but it's really just a crockpot,” Johnson said.
