Playing at Plummer, Idaho, Gar/Pal went 1-1 on the season with a strong dismissal of the Knights, mounting 550 yards rushing.

Junior quarterback Evan Weagraff scored five all-purpose touchdowns while sophomore Ely Hawkins ran for 190 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns. Weagraff also ran 14 times, for 181 yards and three of his five scores.

Other Vikings runners included Travis Knauff (54 yards), Jacob Reed (56 yards) and Chad Hanson (40 yards).

Gar/Pal will play its home opener Friday at 7 p.m. against Lewis County. League play begins Sept. 30 vs. Pomeroy, also at home.

Colton 50, Wallace 40

Up 20-0 early, the Wildcats fought off a chase from Wallace on the road to preseve a win on Brady Chadwick's four-yard touchdown run with 90 seconds left.

The long, clock-consuming drive featured a fourth-down conversion – a throw from Chadwick to Grant Kinzer, who caught 12 passes in the game for 287 yards and three touchdowns. Chadwick went 17-for-24 in the air for 317 yards.

On defense, the Wildcats put up two goal-line stands, and Parker Druffel had an interception and fumble recovery.

Colton (2-1) will play next on the road Friday at Tekoa/Rosalia (Rosalia).

Selkirk 24, S/J/E/L 20

Leading at the end of the first quarter, second quarter and third quarter, the St. John/Endicott/ LaCrosse football team angled for a victory in its second game of the season at Selkirk Sept. 16.

The Rangers, however, scored on a 48-yard run on a pitch outside to take the lead and the game, 24-20.

“We got a fire lit under us with this one,” said coach Ken Gering. “We know it is very much within reach.”

The Eagles rushed for 413 yards in the game, scoring three times – a four-yard run from senior quarterback Reagan Harrison, a catch and 80-yard run from junior Hunter Gingras and a 38-yard run on the first play of the game by Dustin Fox.

Terrell Webb and Gingras led the defense in tackles.

“Our defense flat came alive in the second half,” Gering said. “They were stellar.”

The Eagles (0-2) play next on Friday with another road trip north – to play the Columbia Hunters in a day game at 3 p.m.
