Colfax netters take Okanogan, sweep Asotin in first NE clash

Colfax volleyball players returned to league play at their home gym Tuesday night to defeat Asotin in a three-game match. The Bulldogs started with a 25-14 win in the first game and finished it out 25-10 and 25-13.

The win advanced the Bulldogs to 2-0 in league play with league trips to Reardan and Liberty next week.

The Bulldogs hosted Asotin Tuesday after rolling out four two-game match wins at Okanogan Saturday to take the O-dogs' tournament for the ninth straight year.

Tuesday against Asotin, Kylie Kackman hit 20-20 serving with five aces and put up 17 assists. Carmen Gfeller hit nine kills, and Johanna Stolle hit 14 kills.

After a close 5-5 start Tuesday against Asotin, the Bulldogs began to find the targets against the Panthers who were making their first NE league stop on the Colfax volleyball court.

Saturday at Okanogan, Colfax dropped Toutle Lake, a team they stopped in the semi-final round at the state tournament last year at Yakima 25-14 and 25-28 in the championship round.

On the way to the title match they defeated Omak, Waterville/Mansfield and Tonasket in pool play. Toutle advanced with three pool wins on the opposite bracket.

Two-game Colfax wins in pool play were 25-8 25-11 over Omak, 25-12 25-9 over Waterville/Mansfield, 25-19 25-11 over Tonasket.

Colfax last Thursday sustained its lone defeat when they made a trip to Gonzaga Prep for a GSL tuner and were swept by the Bullpups 25-19 25-15 and 25-13.
