Colfax netters sweep in league start

Colfax volleyball team advanced its mark to 2-0 Tuesday night with a three-game sweep over Northwest Christian. The Bulldogs fell behind in the opening game, and coach Sue Doering made some lineup changes to get the team in gear.

"They just had to settle down a little bit. Once they got settled they began to pick up the points," Doering noted.

The Crusaders posted a five-point lead in the first game, but Colfax tied at 25-25 and put down the next two points for a 27-25 win.

After that, the Bulldogs wrapped the sweep with 25-19 and 25-14 in the next two games.

Carmen Gfeller hit 13 kills and two blocks against the visitors and served 11 for 14.

Sophomore Kylie Kackman took the back court honors with 23 of 24 serving and five aces. Kackman also put up 23 assists and booked eight digs and one kill.

Piper Cai, a junior, served 14 of 16 with two aces. She hit four kills and four digs.

The Bulldogs today will travel to Gonzaga Prep for one of the match ups with a GSL team. Gonzaga was one of the few schools to stop Colfax last year.

"We hope to get a little retribution," Doering commented.

After Thursday's match the Bulldogs will make the long trip to the Okanogan tournament where they are booked to play Omak at 9 a.m. Saturday. Other foes in the bracket are Waterville/Mansfield and Tonasket.

Okanogan, Davenport, Toutle Lake and Kettle Falls are in the other bracket.
