Murder mystery, dance party booked Oct. 7

The haunted festivities in Colfax are getting started a little ahead of Halloween this year. A murder mystery and dance party are planned for the evening of Oct. 7 at 213 N. Main Street.

“We're just trying to do some events,” said Kimberly DeHart, building owner and event planner. “Trying to, every so often, have something to do in town on a Friday night.”

DeHart estimates that the murder mystery and dance party Oct. 7 can comfortably have about 60-70 people attend. She said she is excited to host the event.

“I want to do a murder mystery dinner at some point because I had people say, 'you should do this in your building',” she said.

Peg Curtis Culinary Catering Company out of St. John will be catering the murder mystery. Cost to attend is $65 for both the murder mystery and dance party, or $15 for just the dance party.

DeHart predicts that the party will be a popular affair.

“This is going to be pretty popular, so we'll have to do it again,” she said.

She said there may be a second night added if there is enough demand.

“We might do two nights in a row,” she said. “It's not an option until we sell out and have at least 15 people interested, just right now it's just one night.”

DeHart also hopes to make events on the first Friday of each month a tradition in Colfax.

“I'd like to during the fall and winter and spring have something every first Friday,” she said.

She hopes to see other individuals or groups planning events for the space in her building, of which about half of it is not used regularly.

“I would like to see other people do events on the first Friday,” she said.

She also said she hopes to host a bottle and brush event where an instructor teaches people to paint bottles and attendees can enjoy a glass of wine.

DeHart said she hosted an event in June where she brought in guitarist and singer Eric Engerbretson of Moscow, which was a success.

“People who didn't come to that really missed out,” she commented. “It was a blast. Having music is definitely on the agenda as well. It's just to have something to do again.”

The invitation for the murder mystery and dance party can be found on DeHart's event website, where tickets can also be purchased. More information is available there as well.
