'Mutt Strutt' booked for Oct. 8 at Reaney Park

The Whitman County Human Society is gearing up for the eighth annual Mutt Strutt in Pullman's Reaney Park. The event is slated for Saturday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Registration is now open for the event which will include several owner and dog activities, of which companionships can participate in up to three.

One event is the doggy bob in which the first to eat all of his or her hot dog chunks will win. Large dogs will be required to eat six, while small dogs will be required to eat three, and handlers are not allowed to hand feed the pieces which the dogs will be fishing out of a small tub. The second event is peanut butter spoons, labeled a fan favorite. This event will see which dog can empty the peanut butter spoon the fastest while the spoon handle is in the owner's mouth. No hands will be allowed. Another event is musical chairs where dogs will have to race to not be the last one to sit when the music stops. This event will be repeated until only one dog remains.

The doggy baseball event will have dogs and owners timed as they complete basic obedience commands at each base, and the fastest time at the end of the day will win. Pups will have the chance to show off their art skills during Picasso pups. The dogs will use their paws to create art pieces with non-toxic paint.

The last two events are the treat walk, in which dogs and owners walk in a circle as music plays and if they are standing on the winning number when the music stops they will win the treat prize, and photo cutouts in which people and dogs can take pictures with featured characters.

Cost of registration through Sept. 20 is $16, which includes a T-shirt, and costs goes up to $25 after that. Pooch Park members will receive a 20 percent discount on pre-registration until Sept. 10. Online registration gives priority placement for event participation.
