Misner takes pride in Endicott community

Gazette intern reporter

Kevin Misner moved to Endicott a year and half ago, but in that time has already done more for the community than some will complete in a lifetime. Born in Brewster, Misner always had ties in Endicott, with cousins who he would visit during the summer months growing up. He moved to Vancouver, Wash., when he was a junior in high school and had lived there until a year and a half ago.

“After the state bought the property my shop was on in Battleground, I decided to look at some properties,” said Misner. “I found one and immediately jumped in my car. Never regretted it.”

Misner now works and lives in Endicott, where his business, Palouse Country Tables and Benches, is located in his garage. He builds custom benches, tables, chairs, planter boxes, trellises and more. Through his work, he has made donations to several auctions in town, including the German dinner with the community club in which he donated a bench. He also donated a bench to the mail office in downtown Endicott and is always looking for other ways to donate his time, too.

“There is a lot of abandoned properties around town and I try to find owners to mow the lawns and weed eat,” said Misner. “I just want to make the town look better and not so neglected.”

Misner and fellow Endicott resident Ray Huntley have taken it upon themselves to clean up some of the properties left by homeowners who have since passed or decided to move from town.

“We help take care of at least 10 different properties,” said Misner.

Miser's largest accomplishment in his journey of bettering his community is the “E” for Endicott located on the hillside above the town. He has put spotlights surrounding the “E” which are powered by solar panels.

Additionally, Misner has been working on the three welcome signs which are seen when anyone enters the town.

“They haven't been touched in say, oh twenty years at most,” said Misner.

Misner also hand weeds the property across from the post office in between his other projects.

“If I am able to, I like to work outside and when I can, get out to make the town look better,” said Misner, “somebody needs to do something.
