Ride for a Cure benefit Sunday

The annual Ride for a Cure benefit will be motoring through the Palouse Sunday, June 5. The sixth annual benefit ride will meet at the Colfax Les Schwab for registration at 9 a.m. Sunday, with the riders leaving by 10:30 a.m.

Donations will be accepted at registration Sunday morning.

Deanna Leinweber, one of the organizers for the event, said the ride was started in memory of riders who have died from cancer.

“We lost people that we rode with,” she said. “It's been going on for eight or nine years, but only six with the Relay.”

Leinweber said the attendance varies each year, and last year approximately 120 people participated in the ride on 92 bikes.

Julie Hawley, another ride organizer, said the purpose of the ride is all summed up by the group's motto.

“We ride for the past, present and future of our loved ones, remembering those that have lost to cancer, for those that are dealing with the effects of cancer now and for a future without cancer. We have all been touched by cancer.”

The Ride for a Cure will go through the Palouse countryside and end in Rockford at Fredneck's Tavern. At the tavern, there will be drawings and door prizes for those in attendance.
