Twelve teams bid adieu to Schmuck track

Caleb Brown of Colfax on the way to a 6-5 win in the high jump at the Colfax meet Tuesday at Schmuck Park.

Kaitlin Scholz takes on the third leg of the Colfax win in the 4x100 relay after getting the baton from Josie Riebold.

Colfax girls rolled out 144 points Tuesday for a solid win in the one and only track meet this season at Schmuck Park. The Bulldogs hosted 11 other teams with guests including most county B schools, Waitsburg/Prescott and Pomeroy from the SE and most NE schools.

The meet was the last high school event on the Schmuck Park track which is scheduled for a rebuild over the summer months.

The 144 Colfax tally marked a 45-point margin over St. George’s girls, who rolled up 99 points for second place. The LRS Broncos placed third with 79.

Waitsburg/Prescott edged Valley Christian by 7.5 points with 103.5 to take the win on the boys side of the meet. Colfax boys placed third with 85.5 points.

Scout Cai of Colfax again booked wins in the pole vault and the two sprint events, but took a bye on the high jump.

Coach Jason Cooper also held Carmen Gfeller out of the two hurdle races where she has run up a string of wins. She was allowed a little more recovery time after getting banged up in the tough hurdle events during the first half of the season.

Oakesdale sophomore Ann Hockett took the win in the 400 dash at 59.78 and in the 100 hurdles with a 16.62.

Colfax girls also posted wins in the 4x100 and the 4x200 relay events. Olivia Mellor, Alexie Smith, Josie Riebold and Katelyn Scholz ran legs in the 4x100, and Piper Cai, Riebold, Sarah Kraut and Smith took the win in the 4x200.

Caleb Brown of Colfax cleared 6-5 for big win in the high jump.

Tanner Dingman of Oakesdale and Chase Neill of Tekoa/Rosalia finished one-two on the triple jump with Dingman taking a nine-inch edge at 37-10.75. Parker Perry rolled in more first-place points for Oakesdale with a 142-5 in the javelin.
