Semi truck jackknifes near Colfax

A sign alerts motorists to the accident about a quarter mile ahead.

This semi truck hit a patch of ice Tuesday morning and jackknifed, coming to rest outside of the northbound shoulder of Highway 195.

A semi truck slid off Highway 195 in the S curves area south of Colfax early Tuesday morning. The truck came to a stop almost perpendicular to the highway on the eastbound side just north of the 45 mph speed reduction sign. The driver reported he had hit a patch of ice and the truck jackknifed.

The back of the truck was on the northbound shoulder, and the cab of the truck stopped near the parked vintage jeep pickup which has signs for Tom Kammerzell’s Maple K Farms.

Traffic restrictions were in place early Tuesday morning, and the highway was closed for a short time when the rig was pulled out at about 9:15 a.m.

Flares were spotted along the roadway and traffic signs posted to alert motorists on the highway. Flaggers assisted at the scene. Traffic was alternated along the highway which has three lanes along that section.

Motorists Tuesday morning reported icy conditions worsened as drivers approached Colfax.
