First meeting slated for Colfax garden club

The Perkins House Friday will be the site of the first Colfax garden club meeting starting at 2 p.m.

Colfax residents Cherry Alice Van Tine and Joanne Gfeller have been recruiting members for a few weeks now. At the meeting, they plan to come up with an official name for the group.

“We're thinking 'Digging in the Dirt,'” Van Tine said.

“We're dirt diggers, not gold diggers,” Gfeller said.

The duo said the meeting will include deciding the official name as well as getting things organized as far as members and projects go. Van Tine said the first project planned right now is with the Codger Park. She added that she sees this club as a way to help the city out.

“It will be to assist the city in caring for and beautifying the parks,” she said.

Gfeller said the group should provide a good opportunity to be involved and use some creativity.

“We'll do what garden clubs do generally,” she said. “Be creative.”
