Colton girls lose; record streak ends

The Colton girls' state-record winning streak ended in Spokane Tuesday night.

Playing Okanogan in the West Valley Eagles' Holiday Classic, the Wildcats fell at the hands of the Bulldogs' Jill Townsend.

She scored 42 points as 2B Okanogan beat Colton (8-1) to end their 79-game winning streak, which stretched back to Dec. 28, 2012.

Meghan Devorak led Colton with 18 points in the game while Zoe Moser scored 16. Dakota Patchen added nine.

Colton trailed the whole game, cutting the Bulldogs lead to five in the second quarter and seven in the fourth.

Okanogan is the defending state 2B champions.

Colton now holds the record for longest winning streak in Washington high school girls basketball history, all classifications.

The Wildcats’ establish a new record, just three games short of the state boys’ record, set by Brewster, with 82 in 1977.

Garfield-Palouse 48, Potlatch 36

In non-league action at Potlatch, Keely Burnes led Gar-Pal (3-6) with 16 points Tuesday night. Katie Arrasmith added 12 points and 21 rebounds. Payson Griner scored 11 points.

Colton 60, Lakeside 39

A non-league Christmas Break win over Lakeside pushed Colton's record winning streak to 79 games Monday.

Playing at West Valley High School, the Wildcats handled Lakeside of Nine Mile Falls, the 1A state runner-up last year.

Colton took control early, going up 11-0, and stayed ahead the whole way.

Senior Zoe Moser led with 21 points while Meghan Devorak added 14 points and reserve Dakota Patchen had 12 points and eight rebounds.

BOYS 1B RESULTS

Garfield-Palouse 68, Potlatch 41

The Vikings built their record to 10-0 as Matt Holbrook scored 35 points at Potlatch Tuesday.

Four steals, four assists and five rebounds accompanied his stat line as Wyatt Griner added 13 points and nine rebounds. Mason Bates added 10 points.
