Port funding falls in place for Wilma railroad rehab

The Port of Whitman County has received a grant and loan approval to undertake a $1.5 million railroad project at the Port of Wilma.

The Freight Rail Assistance Program has awarded a $500,000 grant to fund part of the project to replace 1,200 railroad ties and upgrade crossings.

In addition to the grant, the Port received approval for a $500,000 loan from the Freight Rail Investment Bank which will have to be paid back over time.

The grant application states “the intended outcome of this project is to rehabilitate the existing lead to a condition where GRNW can safely serve two new companies,...
