Jennings Elementary School Principal Tom Arlt will begin as High School Principal for Lind-Ritzville High School on July 1.
The Ritzville native will next week finish seven years as principal at Jennings.
“It definitely is not about leaving Colfax or Jennings, or wanting to,” said Arlt. “It’s an opportunity to go home, go back to where I was born and raised.”
Arlt family members homesteaded near Ritzville in 1887. His parents still live there and his brother Dustan is a P.E. teacher and head boys basketball coach for Lind-Ritzville High.
As part of Arlt’s new job, he will also act as principal of Ritzville Elementary School.
He accepted the job May 28.
The Colfax School District is now in the process of gathering applications to hire his replacement. The new principal will join a new superintendent and a new high school principal.
“This truly was not anything I planned on,” Arlt said. “It’s a good place to be principal. It’s been a privilege and honor to be here for seven years.”
