Nereims named Grand Marshals for Rosalia Battle Days weekend

Stewart and Sandi Nereim have been named the 2015 Rosalia Battle Days Grand Marshals. Stewart is retiring as pastor of the Assembly of God Church in Rosalia after nearly 26 years, and Sandi is retiring as the head cook of the Rosalia schools.

Sandi said she and her husband feel very honored to be named the grand marshals.

"We feel like we have been a part of the community. This is home," she said. "This has been home the longest. We're going to miss it a lot."

The Nereims have called Rosalia home for almost 26 years. They were both born and raised in Seattle and served at a camp in Auburn for two and a half years before serving at a church in Ballard for four years and at another church in Minnesota for four years. They moved to Rosalia after that and have called it home ever since.

Sandi said the people in town are what she will miss the most when she and Stewart move later this summer.

"I think the town is just a family," she said.

Chamber President Pat Vogue said the Nereims have been a big part of the community and contributed in significant ways.

"It doesn't matter which church you go to," she said of their hospitality toward all in the community. She also noted that Sandi has seen all the kids go through school and connected with many of them.

The Nereims will be moving to and retiring in Spokane Valley at the end of the summer to live nearer to one of their daughters.
