Seven incumbents file during 3-day extension

Regular filing period for this year’s election closed Friday with a total of 161 candidates filing for office.

The auditor’s office Monday opened a three-day filing period for those offices which failed to attract a candidate during the normal filing period.

As of Friday, 76 offices lacked a candidate. The count included 22 park & recreation seats, 16 fire district seats, nine school board seats, and 11 city council seats as well as the mayor’s chair at Lamont, 13 cemetery board seats, and four hospital district seats.

As of Tuesday evening, eight candidates had filed for the open seats. Seven of them are incumbents.

As of Tuesday evening, the following positions with open seats had received filings.

In the Palouse School District, Brenda Boyd Brown filed to retain her director position, and Leia Placke filed to run against her. In the Steptoe and Oakesdale School Districts, Dan Hall and Shelly Lobdell, respectively, filed for re-election, with no one filing to run against them.

The remaining filings are in hospital and fire districts.

For hospital district three, Ryan Kile, Cherry Alice Van Tine and Tim J Bruya all filed to retain their at-large seats. David Lyman filed for his commissioner position in fire district 13.

Filing was slated to close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
