LaX Community Pride seeks silent auction items

The LaCrosse Community Pride plans to host a silent auction in support of revitalizing the downtown business area and is asking for donations.

The third annual silent auction will run in conjunction with the Farmer’s Festival June 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the community center area of the store building.

Donation of items or financial contributions are welcome.

Carol Cauley, vice president of LaCrosse Community Pride, said several donations have already been received, including a handicapped cart, four antique radios, an unfinished wooden bench and a WSU football autographed by head coach Mike Leach.

Proceeds will be used to pay operating costs of the community center area that functions as a meeting area, a DECA area for students and the LaCrosse branch of the Whitman County Library.

“It’s our big event that we do to earn money so we can keep that side of the building open,” said Cauley.

Cauley said any financial donations would be used to buy more items to auction off. She said they would evaluate what is needed for the auction based on what has already been donated. She gave the example of buying items that children would like if there was a shortage of children’s items.

“We buy stuff with it so we can enhance the auction,” said Cauley. “We want everybody involved in our silent auction.”

Last year, 105 items were auctioned off. Cauley expects about the same number of items this year. Donations will be received until mid-June.
