Trial date schedule in WSU rape case

A July 20 trial date was set for Ruddy Aladina, 24, WSU student accused of second-degree rape. Aladina appeared in Whitman County Superior Court Friday one week after failing to appear.

Judge David Frazier told Aladina that he could have issued a warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear the previous week, but instead Aladina was slated to appear Friday and show cause why he didn't appear.

Aladina said he did not show for the previous hearing because he forgot about it due to finals week at WSU.

Aladina, who is represented by Defense Attorney Steven Martonick, was arrested in December after a WSU student allegedly reported that Aladina forced her to have sex with him in his apartment. The report alleges they went to the apartment after they had met on the dance floor at Stubblefields.

Aladina pled not guilty to the charges in December.

Judge Frazier scheduled future court dates, and noted the importance of Aladina appearing for those dates. He said an arrest warrant will be issued immediately in the event the defendant fails to appear at the future dates.

A July 10 for a readiness hearing has been scheduled before the July 20 trial date.
