Public Works receives ‘Good Practice’ award

The Whitman County Public Works Department has received a Certificate of Good Practice from the State Treasurer for 2014.

Presented Monday by County Commissioners to Public Works Director Mark Storey, the award certifies that the county has completed all of it submittals, certified its expenditures and overall properly tracked all of its money from state funded projects in the past year.

“It’s kind of like our Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval,” Storey said.

He told the County Commissioners that with each project that Public Works takes on with federal money, they are subject to as many as six audits.

The Good Practice awards are given out annually as counties comply. Not every county receives one each year.

“To receive federal funds for county roads, this is part of the key to that process,” said Storey.
