Weitz tops Tekoa, Colfax rounds

Hunter Weitze of Colfax and Sawyer Spackman of St. George’s led a field of 31 boys with scores of 36, one over par, Monday at the Colfax golf course. The number-two player was Augie Allenbach, a Colfax eighth grader, with a 37.

Colfax boys won the team honors with a 193 for the top five with Northwest Christian second at 231 and Kettle Falls third at 273. Kettle brought 11 golfers for their first meet here since returning to the NE league with Josh Dugger pegging their top score at 46. St. George’s had just four players, one short of a team entry.

Other Colfax players in the top five were Kasey Johnson 38, and Cody Gronning and Chance Weitze with 41s. Bennett Gray 43 and AJ Miller 45.

Taylor Mitchell of St. George’s led the girls’ side of competition with a 49. The St. George’s girls topped team play with a 289. Northwest Christian girls scored a 322. Kylie Gronning, lone Colfax entrant, carded a 53.

Last Thursday, Colfax edged Lind/Ritzville/Sprague 201-258 at Tekoa. Hunter Weitze had the top score with a 36 over the hilly Tekoa course, and Kasey Johnson was one stroke back at 37. Other scorers for the Bulldogs were Chance Weitze 42, Allenbach 43, Gray 43, Gronning 48 and Miller 48.

Dawson Strobel led the host Timberwolf team with a 41.

Kylie Gronning topped 10 girls in the competition with a 50, and McKenna Davis carded a 51. Scorers for the Timberwolves were Michaela Tee 57, and Maddie Gregory 66.
