Here we are at an important point in history: Terrorists are threatening the world.

And, we debate over what they should be called.

President Barrack Obama has been roundly criticized for trying to separate the terrorists from the Islamic religion. He says they have perverted Islam and should not be considered a part of it.

Others say that he is being too politically correct for not calling them what they say they are, Islamic terrorists.

Consequently, a debate continues over how we should refer to them. At times, it is more intense than debates over how to combat them.

Names are important during conflict. They can help identify enemies. They are important for propaganda purposes and for distinguishing one side from the other.

Still, the fight against these terrorists is more important than the name given them.

It has become so bad that many who are outraged by Obama’s lack of name calling have stooped to calling him names.

Islam, he rightfully contends, is not the enemy. The enemy is a bunch of terrorists and butchers who have struck out at nearly every nation and nearly every religion.

It is a stupid distraction to fight over what to call them.

All the hand-wringers worrying over semantics should be wringing their hands over the fact that energy, effort and time are being wasted on what to call them.

First things first.

Forget about a perfect name, help work on a perfect response to the threat.
