Positivity campaign starts for Malden

A Positivity Campaign for Malden will be officially launched this evening at the annual Harvest Dinner and Bazaar Oct. 23, 2014, and is scheduled to continue through a new annual event, Malden Appreciation Day, which has tentatively been scheduled for May 16.

A Facebook page has been launched where people can read “the best of the story and the rest of the story,” according to Colleen Cross, administrator of the campaign.

A resident of Malden since December of 2012, Cross introduced the proposal at the September meeting of the Malden City Council and also discussed it at the October meeting.

She noted water rates were one of the agenda items of the September council meeting, and she suggested the campaign as a means of bringing more residents to Malden and thereby increasing the number of people using the town’s water system.

Current residents, former residents of Malden and visitors are invited to post snippets of positivity about Malden for the Facebook page. Also, the campaign hopes to collect many positive photos of Malden. In addition to snippets of positivity and photos of Malden, the page will also feature an events and a notes section.

Residents and visitors are also encouraged to use the new “What I Like About Malden” share box which will be located on Moreland Ave. to share photos and stories which will be added to the Facebook page bi-monthly.

Monthly, the comments and photos will be added to a display in the town’s community building.

Although the campaign will run for less than a year, the positive focus is hoped to continue. Annually, new stories collected on the Facebook page and in the share box will be displayed at the Malden Library & Community Center.
