Tekoa may adjust program

The city of Tekoa may adjust its program which helps those in need pay water, sewer and garbage bills.

Begun in 2011, Tekoa Project Share offers payment of city bills to those with a dire financial need – as opposed to shutting off services.

The fund, for which each residence is eligible to use on one monthly bill per year, is replenished by citizens sending in extra on their accounts. The town’s bills include a line asking if a citizen would like to contribute to the fund.

Tekoa’s program was modeled after a similar one by Avista Utilities, said Mayor John Jaeger.
