Oakesdale will receive reduced flood zone map

A new floodway map is nearing completion for the town of Oakesdale.

The project began three years ago when previous Oakesdale Mayor Russ Rickett submitted a request to conduct a re-study of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) map of the town.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers granted the request and began a detailed flood study, including mapping/cross sections and computer modeling.

The work, finished this summer, will result in a new floodway map for the town, which may affect homeowner’s insurance policies in certain areas of the town.
