Dog causes woman to hit three parked cars

Colfax firefighters were among the emergency personnel who responded to a four-car accident on Main Street in Colfax on Tuesday night. No one was injured.

A Colfax woman hit three parked vehicles on Tuesday evening when her dog jumped into her lap as she was driving Northbound on Main Street in Colfax.

At 6:50 p.m., Carol Damon, Colfax, driving a 1997 Jeep Cherokee, struck three parked cars in front of Westside Pizza, the Imperial Chinese Restaurant and the Top Notch Cafe. She was not injured.

According to Colfax Police Officer Chris Olin, the first person on the scene was off-duty Colfax Firefighter David Gabel. Additional emergency personnel arrived almost immediately afterward.

Olin said two of the vehicles that were hit were unoccupied.

The 1986 Dodge sedan owned by Melinda Duckworth of Colfax was hit on the front driver’s side and sustained a blown tire. Duckworth is employed at Westside Pizza.

The second vehicle hit was a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser owned by Jodene and Larry Young of Colfax.

Kristian Gibler of Pullman was in the third vehicle, a 2005 Hyundai Elantra along with a four-year-old girl who was in the back seat sitting in a car seat. The only damage to the Gibler vehicle seemed to be the driver’s side mirror being struck.

Olin said he could not estimate the damage to the vehicles. No other injuries were reported.

Olin also said there were no traces of drugs or alcohol.

However, Damon was cited for second degree negligent driving.

One lane on Main Street in front of the restaurants was closed for a time while the accident was investigated and the scene was cleared.
