Plowing bee set for this weekend

Between 50 to 60 head of draft horses and mules are expected to be in action over the weekend at the Old Time Farming Days Plowing Bee next to the Palouse Empire Fairgrounds this weekend, according to Stan Riebold one of the organizers of the event.

The Colfax bee will be the fourth in a series of bees that use horse-drawn equipment for farming. The first event was in Ellensburg in March. Other bees were in Pomeroy and Odessa this month.

The land, across from the fairgrounds, will be plowed, fertilized, harrowed, then seeded, all with horses and mules.

Jenny Meyer from Endicott Food Center will serve lunch in the Community Building at the fairground.

Events kick off of between 9 and 10 a.m. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the bee will be canceled and scheduled at a later date.
