Transportation topics in April meeting

Colfax City Council members were advised March 17 that the Transportation Commission has scheduled its April meeting in Pullman. Date of the meeting is April 16.

Mayor Todd Vanek said possible topics for Colfax on the agenda could be the south end Colfax bypass and the status of railroad property in town.

Vanek noted the Airport Road cutoff from Highway 26 leads to an added traffic load on Fairview and S. Main in Colfax, and that extra traffic load could support a request to help fund repairs to the upper end of W. Fairview. He added the county’s rebuild of Airport Road has increased the load on the Colfax streets.

Vanek also reported DOT crews plan to install a “services five miles” sign at the fairgrounds intersection to alert motorists of the Main Street option before they get to the bypass turnoff lane to the Airport. He added a second “services ahead” will be installed at the bottom of the S. Main grade.

Railroad property concerns in town include clearing title to the planned Ackerman addition project along the S. Palouse River west of Bellinger.
