Rosalia street levy passes

Rosalia’s special levy for street maintenance picked up four yes votes in the final count of ballots to pass with a 60.57 percent approval rate. Final count for the levy was 106 yes and 69 no.

Prior to the final round of certification, the Rosalia proposition was two votes under the required 60 percent approval rate. The levy sought $65,000 for maintenance and operation of the street department. Mayor Nan Konishi noted the annual levy is Rosalia’s method for funding street operations. She said the town probably would have put the measure back in front of the voters later this year with hopes of getting it passed before tax statements went out next year.

After the Feb. 13 ballot update, Rosalia’s levy stood at 102 yes and 69 no for a 59.65 approval rate.

Final count on Oakesdale schools $7.16 million bonding proposal was 231 yes and 191 no for 54.74 percent which was short of the required 60 percent.

Another 178 votes were added to the overall ballot total Monday after certification for a 8,099 total. That placed the election return at 38.54 percent of the 21,105 registered voters.

The election canvass board Monday approved the election report which disqualified 123 ballots. That included 62 ballots which arrived too late, 32 which came back unsigned, 19 in which the signature failed to match the one on voter registration cards and 10 which were held back after the voters who were notified of a signature question and asked to provide signed identification failed to respond.

During the post election processing, 105 ballots were eventually counted after delays for checks on duplicant marking and signatures were resolved. The log of the accepted ballots was reviewed and approved by the canvass board.

The elections office also logged 722 ballots which came back because the voter did not reside at the address on the ballot.
