Pfaff wraps up eight years as Garfield mayor

Garfield’s Jarrod Pfaff completed his eight years as mayor Dec. 31.

It was the first political office he held of any kind, running in 2006 when he was asked to go against Ray McCown.

“It was a good experience,” said Pfaff of his two terms.

“It keeps you occupied,” he added. “Overall, the state drives you nuts from time to time with some of their archaic rules but most everybody was pretty decent.”

Pfaff indicated that the hardest part of his mayorship came at the beginning.

“Just trying to learn it all for the first year, the first two years,” he said.

He was asked if there was anything he wanted to do but wasn’t able to get done.

“I’m going to keep those quiet,” answered Pfaff, a USDA Field Technician for pea and lentil breeders.

Once the final city council meeting was complete Dec. 19 to pass the budget, Pfaff’s main work was done, although he went to Utah to bring back the town’s new used garbage truck.

McCown, who Pfaff replaced, will now succeed him after beating councilman Larry Hunt by two votes in November.

He began Jan. 1.

“Just sit back and relax,” Pfaff said of his post-mayorship plans. “No more deadlines, no more budgets.”
