Wheatland Lanes bowling alley re-opens

Balls will roll down newly polished alleys again at Wheatland Lanes in Colfax.

Andre Eubanks recently purchased the bowling establishment and officially opened on Tuesday morning. His brother, Justin, is managing the alley.

At the last minute on Monday, the men decided to retile the floor, but were still inviting people to come in and take a look.

“We’re still piecing everything back together,” Andre said late Monday afternoon.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to own a bowling center,” he said.

He said bowling has been close to his heart for most of his life.

“I’ve always been involved with bowling.”

He bowled all through school and had a bowling scholarship that helped him through college.

Eubanks said that he’s really invested in youth and is the California state director of the bowling congress.

“It’s good for our kids,” he said.

He said he found out that Wheatland Lanes was for sale through fellow bowlers.

“The bowling community is a tight community and I knew about quite a few bowling centers for sale. The one in Colfax was the right price and I like the small town, so I figured I might as well do it,” he said.

“I want to provide the opportunity for the city to bowl again,” he said.

As Wheatland Lanes opens, the hours are Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to midnight and Sunday, noon to 9 p.m. Days and hours may change some time in the future, Eubanks said.

Eubanks also said the center will be running some specials.

The “Bulldog” will be during afternoon hours and is open to any student who shows student identification. They can get two games, shoe rental and a soda for $5. Family Day on Sunday afternoons from noon to 4 p.m. also offers the same deal.

Eubanks said the center offers soft drinks and snacks, but eventually will offer a full-service snack bar. He also plans to serve beer and wine.

Also in the future, Eubanks said he plans to form leagues.

“I really want this to be the community’s bowling center,” he said.
