Colton hammers Pirates, S.J.E., ‘hawks add wins

After being stopped by snow Friday when they were booked for a trip to Liberty Christian, Colton girls Saturday blasted Pomeroy 83-18 for their second league win. The veteran Wildcat club is now 4-0 overall.

Colton will host Tekoa/Oakesdale in the next league round Jan. 3. The Nighthawks, who had a bye Friday, crunched Liberty Christian 54-18 Saturday at Oakesdale to extend their early win string to 5-0.

St. John/Endicott defeated Rosalia 45-30 Saturday on the Spartans’ court to extend their league mark to 3-0 which puts them on top of the race.

Colton Saturday allowed Pomeroy, which did not have a full lineup, just one point in the second half after staking a 51-17 lead at the break.

Jenna Moser again led the Wildcats with 24 points, and Zoe Moser and Jackie Warner each hit 15. The Wildcats hit 10 three-point shots against the Pirates with Zoe Moser plunking three of them.

Pomeroy made the trip over to Colton after edging Touchet 46-38 Friday on the Pirates’ court. The game was one of two which were played as a snowstorm hit the area Friday.

At Oakesdale Saturday, J. C. Johnson hit 19 and Maddie Jo Johnson hit 16 for the Nighthawks in their 75-32 win over the Patriots.

Wynter Greeno topped the Patriots with 13 points.

At Rosalia, the Spartan girls rattled the Eagles with a 13-9 lead after the first frame, but SJE bounced back to take a 21-17 lead at the break. In fact, SJE’s defense held the Spartans to just six points over the middle two quarters while stacking 27 on the way to the 45-30 win.

Mackenzie Reddish hit a game-high 18 for the Spartans. Abby Glorfield led the Eagles with nine.

Touchet bounced back for a 54-18 win over the LWK Tigercats Saturday round with Cierra Jo McKeown hitting a league-high 32 points.

Rosalia Friday nipped the GP Vikings 42-40 at Palouse in the lone local league game played after the snowstorm. The matchup was a battle all the way with Reddish dropping 22 beans for the Spartan. The Spartan collected 13-23 at the todd line to make the difference in the game.
