Food Pantry gets donations

The Nutrition Program and COAST Transportation received a sizable donation from Palouse Wind on Friday, Dec. 20.

Palouse Wind Operations Manager Greg Scorsone and Support Specialist Shawn Elston presented a $5,000 check to Nutrition Program Director Suzy McNeilly.

“We are very happy to provide funds that can truly make a difference to those Whitman County residents in the greatest need,” said Scorsone. “These funds will support a variety of needs such as a county-wide distribution of holiday pork roasts to 250 of the county’s neediest families, senior nutrition to seniors living in both Rosalia and Oakesdale and support to provide transportation to people in need county-wide.”

The remainder will go to support the general needs of the food pantry.

The Colfax Food Pantry provides food distribution to the food pantries located throughout Whitman County.

McNeilly also said that local state Department of Transportation crews and local Washington State Patrol officers donated 1,195 pounds of food and Colfax schools also donated 2,159 pounds of food to the pantry.

Palouse Wind is a wind farm owned by parent company First Wind that operates a site of 58 Vestas wind turbines between Rosalia and Oakesdale.
