Conservation district plans to move office

After 70 years of having an office rent free, the Whitman Conservation District must move, according to a new policy from the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

According to conservation board member Jan Turney, the district has known about the possibility of a move for a couple of years. She said after calculating a percentage of square feet and divided by the employees who work in the office, the rent was “an extremely high amount,” she said.

No decision has been made where the conservation district will land.

“Out intent is to move by late spring or early summer,” she said.

“We need to figure out where, some place where there’s easy access for people to get to us, lots of parking and some place to store our equipment,” she said.

Board members are looking for a possible location in downtown Colfax.
