Suspect arrested in church case

Colfax Police Oct. 30 arrested Jeremiah Lee Stillman on probable charges related to the burglary at First Baptist Church in Colfax last March. Stillman, 36, Moscow, was booked into the county jail on probable charges of burglary, second degree theft, possession of stolen property and two counts of malicious mischief.

Officers were called to the scene early March 31 where entry had apparently been made into the church by breaking out a window in the door to the kitchen. A computer, sound board and microphones were among items missing. Officers also reported they found blood at the scene and believe the intruder could have cut himself.

According to the arrest report by Officer Perry Tate, Stillman admitted to breaking into the church after being advised of his rights. He told Tate he had been drinking at the time.

Stillman, who resided a block from the church in Colfax at the time of the thefts, allegedly was in possession of a laptop computer which was among items taken from the church, and Tate reported a subsequent check of the computer's identification number matched the numbers of the one missing from the church. Stillman reportedly told the officer he had taken all the church files off the computer before using it.

He also said the sound board and microphones which he took from the church were dropped into a dumpster at the apartment where he was living at the time.

He was allowed release on his own recognizance in a first appearance in court.
