Domestic violence touches every person in our community and society as a whole and violates a person’s dignity, safety and basic human rights. One in four women has experienced intimate partner violence in her lifetime (women account for 85 percent of the victims of intimate partner violence, men for approximately 15 percent). Estimates range to up to 3 million women who are physically abused by their husbands or boyfriends every year. On average, more than three women and one man are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends in this country every day.
