McManus show

set at Empire

“Scrambled McManus,” a live show based on the humor of Sandpoint author Patrick McManus, is set for Saturday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Empire Theater in Tekoa. The one-man show features Tim Behrens, who has been performing McManus material for more than 20 years.

He has done hundreds of performances which include a wide range of comedic skits on McManus’ themes of hunting, fishing, rural life, domestic situations and all the foibles connected with “honey-do” lists.

With a few props, good timing and a lot of body language, Behrens brings these stories to life in a way that entertains audiences of all ages.

This will be Behrens’ first performance in the Empire, which, because of its small size and excellent acoustics, has proved to be an ideal venue for live theater.

“Scrambled McManus” represents a potpourri of skits from a number of McManus’ books. DVDs from Behren’s other shows will be available at the performance.

The Empire has negotiated a special price for the event: $17 for adults and $13 for ages 17 and under. Advance tickets can be reserved by sending a check to PO Box 574, Tekoa, 99033, or by calling (509) 284-5173.

Book signing

at Dahmen Barn

Author Carole Simon Smolinski from Lewiston and illustrator Connie McLeod from Clarkston will sign copies of Timothy Nolan’s Idaho, 1862-1890, Saturday, Nov. 16, 10 to 2 at Dahmen Barn in Uniontown. The book features several scholarly accounts of adventures and events in and around Lewiston, Idaho, from the Gold Rush to Statehood. The book, McLeod’s original illustrations and cards of the illustrations will be available for purchase at the barn shop.

The book is a history of life in the mining communities and supply towns of central Idaho during its territorial period. It is a historical narrative by fictitious Timothy Nolan who writes his reminiscence in 1890.

By presenting the history in the voice of someone who lived through those years, Simon-Smolinski recounts the events and describes the people and places.
