Do the research

I would like to urge all voters to do their research on genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, in our food supply.

The multi-national corporations that are throwing millions of dollars into a campaign against I-522 hope that we will be lazy and only listen to the words crafted by their self-interested marketing departments.

There is abundant information out there. Here are a few examples:

Later this week there is a free “GMO Mini Summit” teleconference featuring leading experts from the international community of physicians, scientists, nutritionists, veterinarians, and farmers. More information is available at gmosummit.org.

The Institute for Responsible Technology is the most comprehensive source of GMO health information on the web. It can be found at responsibletechnology.org.

A copy of the award-winning movie “Genetic Roulette — The Gamble of Our Lives” is available at the Whitman County Library.

One of the best things that can come out of the I-522 initiative is an educated public making wise decisions about what they eat, and retaining the right to know what’s in our food.

Colfax

Honor the Friends

In honor of National Friends of the Library Week, we would like to call attention to local Friends of the Library who generously donate their time and resources. Their contributions allow our libraries to bring you the best in services. From children and adult programming, to quality materials collections and building improvements, local public libraries wouldn’t be the same without our Friends. Please consider joining your Friends and neighbors in this valuable organization that makes the Palouse a better place to live and learn.
