Iowa farmer gives talk in support of GMO labeling

In November, Washington voters will decide if foods that are genetically modified should contain that information on labels.

Initiative 522 requires labels on foods that use genetic engineered ingredients.

Howard Vlieger, a farmer from Iowa, spoke to a sparse audience last Thursday afternoon in the Community Building at the fairground about the harmful effects of Genetically Modified Organisms, particularly in grains.

He is part of a movement that favors labeling foods that have GMOs in them. His appearance at the fair was sponsored by the Pomona Grange.
