Tekoa looks to sell small land parcel

Tekoa city officials are weighing an offer to sell a trianglular piece of property near the Gymkanna Grounds.

Todd Gabbard, who owns a house across the street and up the hill from the new outdoor basketball court on the gymkanna grounds, proposed that the city sell the piece of land to him at the Aug. 5 council meeting.

“I’d like to beautify the area in front of my house,” said Gabbard, who lives in the former pastor’s house for Tekoa Mountain Chapel.

The area in question is less than a quarter-acre in size, between Connell Street and the Gymkanna park area.

“We think it’s a good idea,” said Tekoa Mayor John Jaeger. “It’s an awkward piece of ground for us to take care of.”

In the next two months, Jaeger said, the city plans to declare the land parcel surplus and have it assessed. They then plan to call for bids.
