Serving Whitman County since 1877

Pharmacy opens at Garfield clinic

A full-service pharmacy has opened in Garfield.

Beginning May 1, the Garfield Pharmacy has been serving customers in the Whitman Medical Group building in a former dental office.

The operation is owned by Michelle Welch who operates the St. John Pharmacy.

Pharmacists on staff are Jeff Ronngren and Jeff Clizer.

Technician Mary Moore said that things are going well for the new pharmacy which sells over-the-counter drug store supplies such as aspirin, Band-Aids, vitamins and antacids in addition to prescriptions.

“It’s good, it’s slowly picking up, mostly by word of mouth,” said Moore.

In addition to the three staff members, Moore said there is one more familiar figure.

“Hunter, the dog, she’s our greeter,” she said.

The clinic is next to the medical office staffed by Dr. Anthony Lundberg and Physician’s Assistant Raylene Lawrence.

“It’s really good for the practice, but especially beneficial for the community as a whole,” said Lawrence. “It’s a win-win. We’re just really grateful for them to be here.”

Lawrence said the pharmacy is able to get whatever the clinic prescribes in a short time.

“Anything not on the shelf, they can get later in the day or first thing the next morning,” Moore said. “We have not run into any problems at all in their being able to fill our prescriptions.”

The pharmacy’s hours of operation matches those of the clinic: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
