Hot rods, Derby Dames will roll to Palouse for 9th gathering

The ninth annual Palouse Spring Barbecue and Hot Rod Gathering will be Saturday from from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition to the unique Main Street car show, the day will feature live music, vendors, a beer garden and Texas-style barbecue by C.D.’s of Moscow.

Vehicles featured include traditional hot rods, customs, jalopies, sleds, choppers, bobbers and more. All hot rods are pre-1973.

“We’ve been known to give out trophies but not for a particular reason,” said Marc VanHarn, one of the organizers.

“It’s not about classes or winning; it’s about just hanging out and having a good time.”

The Derby Dames will park cars and then do a demonstration at 2:30 p.m.

Music will be provided by the Cold Rail Blues Band from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Bare Wires will play from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Both groups are from Moscow.

Cost to enter a car is $10. “Trailer queens” and “billet barges” are discouraged.

The event is put on by Vintage Velocity Rods of Palouse and the Knuckle Skrapers.
