Filing reflects changes for four mayoral posts

The first week of election filings for town councils and small district commissions ended with only one three-way race which will go on the primary ballot for Aug. l 6.

The filing period ended with candidates on the ballot for all the open mayoral positions. Lone race for mayor will be at Garfield where Ray McCown and Larry Hunt have filed for mayor. Incumbent Jarrod Pfaff did not file for another term.

At Rosalia, Council-woman Nan Konishi filed for the mayor’s chair which has been held by Jim Stenhouse.

At Farmington, James Woomack filed unopposed for the mayor’s post which has been held by Ron Dugan who has announced his intentions earlier to step down.

Randy Camp, who was appointed mayor at LaCrosse two weeks ago to replace Butch Burgess, filed unopposed for election for the balance of the term and a full term.

Incumbent mayors Ted Maxwell at Malden and David Jacobs at Uniontown filed unopposed for re-election.

Port Commission John E. Love of Garfield filed unopposed for another term on the port board for district one. Love has served on the port commission since 1996.

Five seats on the Colfax City Council all drew candidates with Whitney Mueller and Steven Bretveld filing unopposed for seats now held by David Nails and Don Henderson. Both incumbents declined to seek another term. Henderson will complete 16 years of council service this year.

Jeannette Solomine and Thomas Huntwork filed unopposed for re-election.

The lone three-way race shaped up at Pullman for position six now held by Derrick Skoag who did not file. LeKecia Farmer, Eileen Mccol and Marcus Crossler all filed for the seat. To date that is the lone race which could be on the primary.

Extended filing for 62 offices around the county which failed to attract a candidate during open filing last week. The extended filing will continue through Thursday.

All filing will be done at the elections office in Colfax. The on-line filing service for last week will not be available.

Colfax councilman Steve Holberg was the first candidate in the extended session.
